CS Virtual Computing Lab
Information:The Computer Science Virtual Computer Lab is a new service we are offering to all Computer Science Students. You can connect via Remote Desktop to a machine which mirrors the software available in the OR Lab. This allows you to use programs installed on our lab machines from anywhere.
Connecting:
You can connect via Remote Desktop.
For Windows this is a built-in program which can be accessed under Start->All Programs->Accessories->Remote Desktop Connection.
For Macintosh it can be downloaded from Microsoft Mactopia.
Various Linux ports are available including rdesktop with tsclient.
For hostname use vclab.cs.odu.edu, you will login with your CS credentials. (For username put CS\yourusername ie CS\jdoe).
Also if you bring up options in the Remote Desktop Connection window you can choose to use your remote printer, speakers, etc with your session.
Idle/Disconnected Sessions:
Sessions idle for more than 15 minutes will be disconnected.
Disconnected sessions will be closed in 15 minutes.
Feedback:
Please send any comments or suggestions to root@cs.odu.edu
Known Issues:
A bug in the Mac client causes audio not to work when connecting to a 64-bit computer, as a workaround Mac clients can connect to the server vclab-mac.cs.odu.edu if they need audio until Microsoft fixes this issue
Visio and Project are the 2003 version, not 2010 as installed in the lab, due to licensing restrictions.
